The Phantom of the Opera VIDEOS
January 9, 1988 | Broadway First Preview | VOB
Michael Crawford (Phantom), Sarah Brightman (Christine Daee), Steve Barton (Raoul)
* First Broadway Preview. Not bad quality for it's age. Quality B.
October 8, 1988 | Broadway | VOB
Michael Crawford, Dale Kristien, Steve Barton, Judy Kaye, Nick Wyman, Chris Groenendaal
* Some sites list this video with Patti Cohenour, it most certainly is not, very clearly Dale Kristien. Very good video for its age, nice colors, a video where you can actually see the AIAOY Reprise and The Title Song. Kind of shaky, said to be Michael Crawford in his final Broadway performance.
1991 | Toronto | VOB
Colm Wilkinson, Rebecca Caine (unsure about her), Byron Nease, et al
* Highlights (approx. 51 min.); Great color and clarity for its age with a nice collection of incredible close-ups. No obstructions but a fair amount of spotlight washout. Picture only for most of the AIAOY Reprise, sound cuts in for "Christine...Christine". Wilkinson gives a tour-de-force performance that is leagues better than on either the OCC or Sydmonton recordings; he has become one of my top three favorite Phantoms based on this video, particularly his amazing Stranger than you Dreamt It and Final Lair scenes.B+
June 25 & 26, 1992 / 1993 | Philadelphia, Detroit | VOB
Kevin Gray, Dodie Pettit/Teri Bibb, Keith Buterbaugh/Nat Chandler, David Hunerjaeger
* 3 shows in 1 - highlights of the June 25th and 26th show (with Dodie Pettit), and highlights, Phantom-focused, of a 1993 show, with Teri Bibb. Many big closeups in the Teri Bibb one, though color is sepia toned. Rather hilarious flub where the lasso breaks during the 'Final Lair' of one of the shows.
June 30, 1993 | Vienna, Austria | VOB
Alexander Goebel, Luzia Nistler, Thorsten Tinney
* Last performance for the Austrian cast. Very good quality for its age - decent color and detail and with numerous closeups and wideshots. Luzia Nistler has a nice voice and plays a mature Christine; Alexander Goebel is the eeriest Phantom you will ever have the pleasure of hearing. Features a few funny ad-libs by the supporting cast.
July/September, 1993 | Pittsburgh | 2nd National Tour | Highlights | VOB
Franc D'Ambrosio, Tracy Shayne, Ciaran Sheehan
* 71-minute highlights, Phantom-orientated. Begins after 'Think of Me' then skips to 'The Mirror'.

* About an hour of mostly Phantom-focused highlights.
1995 | London | VOB
Ethan Freeman, Jill Washington, Simon Bowman
* Fuzzy picture, some color loss in darker parts, and unable to really distinguish faces, especially in spotlights, but big picture and has survived fairly well for something so old. Proshot by RUG.
July 1998 | Broadway | VOB
Thomas James O’ Leary, Sandra Joseph, Gary Mauer, Jeff Keller, George Lee Andrews, Patricia Hurd, Lelia Martin, Ted Keegan
1999 | Salt Lake City & Philadelphia | US Tour | Highlights | VOB
Ian Jon Bourg/Brad Little, Rebecca Pitcher, Richard Todd Adams, David Cryer, Ian Jon Bourg
* Highlights video; runs about 80 min. Phantom- and Andre-oriented highlights video. Focuses on Ian Jon Bourg when he is the Phantom and Andre, with Brad Little playing the Phantom when Bourg is Andre. Starts midway through the managers' speech in 'Hannibal'. Color loss and hard to see in dark areas, fuzzy and hard to see details.
March 9, 2000 | London | VOB
Scott Davies,Meredith Braun(alt), Matthew Cammelle
* Great quality, and amazing cast. Heads blocking the view but huge closeups make up for that.

Ian Jon Bourg, Janine Kitzen, Michael Shawn Lewis, Ernst van Looy, Jonathan Agar, Barbara Gray Nystrom, Gabriele Ramm
* Monitor video, great quality. Opening night. Some spotlight washout, but definetly the best quality monitor video from Stuttgart. Includes the full intermission, so there's 30 minutes of curtains in the video.
April 5, 2003 | Broadway | VOB
Howard McGillin, Adrienne McEwan (alt), Jim Weitzer (u/s Raoul), Jeff Keller, George Lee Andrews, Patty Goble (u/s Carlotta), Sally Williams (alt Mme Giry), Larry Wayne Morbitt, Joelle Gates
September 8, 2003 | Broadway | VOB
Hugh Panaro, Sandra Joseph, John Cudia, Jeff Keller, George Lee Andrews, Patricia Phillips, Marilyn Caskey, Larry Wayne Morbitt, Joelle Gates
* Lovely cast. Sandra is the probably best I've seen her, Hugh is spectacular, and John makes such a perfect Raoul. Head blocking kind of gets a little annoying at times. Other than that, good quality.
October 7, 2003 | Broadway | VOB
Hugh Panaro, Julie Hanson, and Jim Weitzer
November 18, 2003 | Los Angeles | VOB
Brad Little, Marni Raab, Tim Martin Gleason, David Cryer, D.C. Anderson, Kim Stengel, Jimmy Smagula, Patti Davidson-Gorbea, Kate Wray

Steve Lucas (u/s), Maike Switzer, Carsten Lepper, Stefan Mueller-Ruppert, Marko Woytowicz, Barbara Grey Nystrom, Anette Kuhn, Marcello Ronchietto, Lara Glew
* Hilarious flub in which Red Death could not make it up to the staircase during 'Masquerade', so he walks through the crowd to get there.
May 23, 2004 | Stuttgart, Germany | VOB
Thomas Schulze, Maike Switzer, Carsten Axel Lepper, Ernst van Looy, Jonathan Agar, Barbara Gray Nystrom, Gabriele Ramm, Marchello Ronchietto, Katie Wood
* Big picture, a little fuzzy. Blocking from heads and the bar in front; camera can be very shaky. Many wideshots and gigantic closeups as well. Last show for the Stuttgart production; features some funny ad-libs from the cast and one of the most heartbreaking 'Final Lair' scenes I've ever seen.
June 28, 2004 | Broadway | Matinee | VOB
Howard McGillin (Phantom), Julie Hanson (alt. Christine), John Cudia (Raoul), Kris Koop (u/s Carlotta), Jeff Keller (Firmin), George Lee Andrews (Andre), Larry Wayne Morbitt (Piangi), Marilyn Caskey (Madame Giry), Heather McFadden (Meg)

February 26, 2005 | London | VOB
John Owen-Jones, Rachel Barrell, Oliver Thornton, Richard Hazell, Sam Hiller, Sally Harrison, Heather Jackson, Rohan Tickell, Claire Tilling.

July 15, 2006 | Essen, Germany | VOB
Uwe Kroger, Beatrix Reiterer, Lucius Wolter, Gabriele Ramm, Fernand Delosch, Ernst van Looy, Laurie Anne McGowan, Daniel Brenna, Annabel Knight
* Just beautiful. Huge picture, wonderful quality, sharp details and colors - one of the best bootlegs out there. A little blocking in the center and camera is often tilted to the side, plus some jumpiness on a few scenes.
August 18, 2006 | Broadway | VOB

August 19, 2008 | Portland, OR | VOB | Act1 Only
Richard Todd Adams, Kelly Jeanne Grant, Greg Mills
* Act 1 only. Steady shooting and gorgeous detail and color, but has a slightly fuzzy quality around the edges. Sound is also very quiet.
September 6, 2008 | London | VOB
Ramin Karimloo, Leila Benn Harris, Alex Rathgeber, Wendy Ferguson, David Lawrence, Craig Nicholls (u/s), Lyndsay Wise
* Leila, Alex, and a bunch of other cast members' last. Act 2 only (but it has all of it). Good quality, but cameraman can't seem to move camera down, so we see the tops of people's heads a lot and miss out on a lot of action. Rather the opposite of what happens in the other Ramin Karimloo video. I like this pairing; Leila is an interesting, very coy and flirtatious Christine, and her chemistry with Ramin is very good.
September 9, 2008 | London | VOB
Ramin Karimloo, Gina Beck, Simon Bailey, Kate Radmilovic, Barry James, Gareth Snook, Heather Jackson, Rohan Tickell, Tori Johns
May 22, 2009 | Adelaide, Australia | VOB
Anthony Warlow (Phantom), Ana Marina (Christine), Alexander Lewis (Raoul), John O’May, Derek Taylor,Andrea Creighton, Jackie Rees, David Rogers Smith, Nadia Komazec
* Act 1 only, and cuts off before the chandelier. Mostly wideshots, of the entire theater no less - you can see the television screens! Audio only during the first bit of Christine's 'Think of Me' and half of 'Music of the Night'. Some zooms, but camera strays so much, sometimes so low you can only see Christine's feet, other times so high you only see the top of the stage, and other times not even focusing on the main characters! (Glassprism's review)

Earl Carpenter (Phantom), Katie Hall (Christine), Simon Bailey (Raoul), Angela M. Casar (Carlotta), Andy Hockley (Firmin), Simon Green (Andre), Elizabeth Marsh (Madame Giry), Vincent Pirillo (Piangi), Hannah Cadec (Meg Giry)
* A beautiful caputre in 16:9 wide-screen featuring Katie Hall as Christine, the only problem with this recording is that due to late comers part of Music of the Night is missing.

* This was filmed after the November cast change, with a new Christine alternate. Small flub where Christine did not quite manage to remove Phantom's hood. Prologue has quite a few blackouts, and another small blackout in act 2 when Madame Giry confesses to Raoul (all due to late seating), but otherwise very clear and unobstructed. Complete show including curtain call and BCEFA speech. 1DVD.
